The people behind Light Matter

We’re Shaleen and Kaushik

Our story begins not too long ago. In 2015, Shaleen and I met on campus. The truth is, when I first met her, I was with a group of friends. Needless to say, she didn’t notice me but that’s okay.

Here’s when things got interesting. Shaleen came into our room to finish off her work. What happened after, I think sealed our fate. We grabbed dinner (from Countdown), went back and couldn’t stop talking. I dropped her off that night, got her number and for the next two months, we’d spend hours talking on the phone.

We started dating, things fell into place. I proposed in August 2018 and we got married in the beautiful islands of Fiji in January 2019. That’s our story so far.

Light Matter is our baby, because it’s something that born out of our relationship and passion. We take pride in creating films and we know, the more soul and heart we put into each video, the more you’re going to love it.

The technical details

This section will either bore you or excite you. We hope it’s the latter. A huge part of your big day is not having to worry about what gets captured and what gets the attention it deserves.

We use four DSLR’s (Canon 6D Mk2’s, Canon 5D Mk4’s and Canon 700D’s) to capture your day. For the ceremony, we’ll set up two to three stationary cameras on tripods pointed at the bride, the groom and if requested, the officiant. These cameras all have a dedicated Rode VideoMic Pro connected so we always have backup audio.

We’ll also have one camera roaming on a DJI Ronin s Gimbal capturing all the close up emotional goodness during the ceremony.

To capture your guests arrival, departure and other cool time-lapse footage throughout your day, we use a 2 GoPro Hero 7 Black’s attached at different parts of your venue so we always have a good angle to pick and choose from.

Lenses, the things that make your wedding video extra beautiful! We use a series of Canon lenses. We switch between the Canon 24-70 f2.8, Canon 70-200 f2.8, Canon 50mm f1.2, Canon 85mm f1,4, Canon 24-105 f4 and Canon 16-35 f2.8 + a whole lot of other lenses.

We use a Zoom H6 Audio recorder to capture audio from the A/V systems whilst the bride and groom each have their own Tascam DR-10L Lavalier Microphones attached to their clothing to record your sweet nothings during the ceremony.

If needed, we also have Aputure LED lights to brighten the scenes. This is almost always needed during the reception.

Other than this, we have a whole raft of equipment, accessories and lenses that we use to really make your day memorable.

To put the film together, we use three primary pieces of software. Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After Effects and DaVinci Resolve.

How do you get your film? We send you an Adobe File Share link and a beautiful engraved box with a personalised USB stick.
